Volunteers have formed the heart of our Museum since its establishment in 1895.

Today, over one hundred volunteers participate in the Château's everyday operations. They serve as guides, administrators, trustees or supporters of Museum activities. Thanks to their time and commitment, the Château offers visitors a number of personalized, authentic and memorable activities, from guided tours for tourists and students of all ages, to special activities in the garden.

Being a volunteer guide at the Château Ramezay

Being a volunteer guide at the Château Ramezay is an opportunity to share our history and be part of a dynamic group of enthusiastic people.

The Guides' Association regularly organizes social activities for members, as well as dinners and visits to other cultural institutions. Training for prospective guides is provided by experienced guides who are happy to share their knowledge.

Every year, the Château Ramezay hosts guided tours for thousands of visitors of all kinds. They are primarily students, from primary to university level, new immigrants learning French and an ever-growing number of tourists from Québec and abroad who want to know more about the history of Montréal and of Quebec.

Our three volunteer guides' associations

The Association des guides de Ramezay consists of volunteers who provide French tours to primary and secondary school groups and reception classes, as well as adults taking French classes, and any social, cultural or tourist groups with special requests. They also offer guided tours to casual visitors at fixed times.

The Association of English-Speaking Guides of the Chateau Ramezay Museum consists of volunteers who provide English tours of the Château to a smilar clientele.

The Friends of the Governor's Garden are volunteers who host tours in the Château's garden from June until the end of September. They greet visitors and provide various activities related to the history of the garden, the Château and the city of Montréal.

If you are looking for an interesting and rewarding way of spending your free time, you'll find the Château Ramezay provides a great opportunity to do volunteer work with a personal touch, perfect for enthusiastic people with outgoing personalities!

In addition, being a volunteer comes with a full set of privileges:
