Montreal, December 15th, 2022 – From the first weekend of December until the end of the school holiday break, the Château Ramezay – Historic Site and Museum of Montreal will be adorned of rich decorations and offer a festive programming. Get the family together and reacquaint yourselves with the origins of old-fashioned holiday season traditions with: Around the Fireplace…Holiday Traditions!
Until January 7th, 2024, the Château Ramezay’s fireplace mantels will be richly decorated with a specific theme. Each hearth will have you discover a holiday tradition: greeting cards, Christmas stockings, Advent calendar… there is much to learn around our fireplaces! Invite your cousins, don’t forget about grandma, and come reconnect with the traditions of the past through our exhibitions and activities. You’ll leave with rekindled anecdotes and beautiful memories to share with family and friends.
As part of this festive programming, the Château Ramezay is offering an opportunity for children, unique in Montreal: to come hang a Christmas stocking by one of our fireplaces! Then, come back in the New Year to retrieve it. Who knows what Santa will have left for you?
The stockings will be available for $10 plus tax;
They can be hung until December 30th, 2023;
They can be then picked up as of January 2nd, 2024.
To help guide through the Museum, a free booklet will be offered to families upon their arrival. A hunt for curiosities from the past, a quest for information tidbits, and discussion prompts will keep children engaged throughout the visit.
“What was Christmas like when you were little, mom?”
The Château Ramezay provides everything you need to make your own Christmas card! Bring your family up to our attic to create an old-time card inspired by the landscape in our exhibitions (including the temporary Québec City Landscapes - Power Corporation of Canada Art Collection). If you prefer, create an e-card with a photo taken against the wintry backdrop of our in-house studio! Grab a pair of snowshoes and pose in a Hudson's Bay coat,a voyageur sash and woolen tuque, just as Montrealers did in the photo studios of the period. This activity is offered December 16 and 17 and December 26 to January 7, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (The Château is closed December 31 and January 1).

Required profile
You don’t need to be a historian or even bilingual, as long as you’re comfortable with others, love learning and sharing your knowledge with a diverse clientele, a few hours per week. If, in addition, you’re interested in the history of Quebec and/or of Montreal, you’d be an ideal candidate! Complete training is available. Teamed with an experienced guide, you’ll learn the ropes of our programs and master the pleasures of guiding, at your own pace.
A Risky Business?!
Yes indeed! By becoming a volunteer at the Chateau, you risk making new friends! The volunteer guides are divided into two associations, the French-speaking guides and the English-speaking ones, nearly 100 members in all. Each group organizes continuing training, outings, and various events over the year. Some volunteers have been with the Chateau for over 25 years!
Montréal, June 8, 2023 – Château Ramezay – Historic Site and Museum of Montréal presents the exhibition “Québec City Landscapes” – Power Corporation of Canada Artworks Collection. Twenty-five paintings illustrating Québec City and environs will be on display until January 6, 2024. This is a unique opportunity to see works from one of the most outstanding corporate collections in the country!
Sixty years ago this year, the government of Québec designated Old Québec an historic quarter. In 1985, UNESCO named Québec City a World Heritage City. Our capital is rich in history, architecture, surroundings, monuments and archeological sites. This year, after presenting “Montréal Landscapes” in 2020-2021, the Château is highlighting the beauty and rich history of Québec City with “Québec City Landscapes” – Power Corporation of Canada Artworks Collection.
This exhibition presents 25 paintings produced between 1830 and 1987 by 20 different artists, each of whom illustrated Québec City and environs in their own individual way. Let the Château in Old Montréal take you back in time to savour our cherished Québec heritage!
Founded in 1964 by Paul Guy Desmarais, the Power Corporation of Canada collection is considered one of the country’s pre-eminent corporate art collections. Since that date, the Corporation’s acquisition of works by celebrated Canadian artists has aimed to trace the development and reflect the quality and diversity of Canadian art from 1800 to 1970.
The collection places special emphasis upon the artistic themes and approaches that have had the most impact on the development of the various aesthetic movements marking the history of Canadian art. Like that of Canada’s major museums, it is the mission of the Power Corporation collection to make known the excellence and originality of Canadian Art.

Montreal, February 13, 2023 - For the first time since 2020, the Château Ramezay - Historic Site and Museum of Montreal is once again inviting families to get their hands dirty. Take advantage of spring break to share a historical culinary experience with your children with our bread-baking workshop!
Churn your butter, then add your starter and flour - your bread is starting to take shape! Next, throw in some sugar that you will ground yourself and some dried fruit. This is a tasty snack to enjoy with your family! While your bread is baking, take a look at the history of Montreal through our permanent exhibition or discover our temporary exhibitions.
From February 26, 2023 to March 5, 2023 inclusively, the Museum will offer this activity every day contiuously from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. No reservations are required, just show up at the Museum!
The Château invites children of all ages to discover its exhibitions through a new lens. While browsing through the rooms, they will make discoveries and, like our curator, choose their favourite pieces to create their own exhibitions on the history of Montreal. Making choices isn't easy, but it's a great way to learn while having fun!

Visiting the Château with your family is also fun and immersive! During your visit in the vaults, take a break in the family zone where there are many costumes for all ages to put on. Imagine yourself in the 18th-century Château and take a picture in front of New France landscape backdrops!
